St Martha's Convent is situated in The Mount House, Camlet Way, an 18th-century house which has been adapted for school use by the addition of hall/gymnasium, three blocks of classrooms, art/craft studios, dining hall and drama/music studio, and a science and audio-visual block, and a block for CDT.
The school is run by the Sisters of St Martha, and about half the pupils are Catholic, but girls of all nationalities and creeds are accepted and learn to live together in harmony with the basics of Christian living as their main principle and challenge.
A sound general education is given to GCSE and A level. In the first two years, all pupils follow a basic course in academic and craft subjects. During the third year, girls, in consultation with staff and parents, choose the course for which they are best suited.
After GCSE the girls can stay on for A Level work. They have their own VIth Form Centre with common and study rooms and are taught in small tutorials. A head girl and prefects are selected each year and these girls help with the smooth running of the School.
All admission are subjects to an entrance test, graded according to age. Such tests are held annually in the spring term for entry in the following September, but a few vacancies do occur at other times.
St Martha's places great emphasis on high academic standards in a wide range of subjects; in a disciplined supportive working atmosphere girls are encouraged to see the value of intellectual achievement and to develop their academic ability to the full.
